Savour St Malo with a Brittany Ferries gourmet cruise

17th October 2019

Self-confessed foodie?  Why not try one of Brittany Ferries’ popular Gourmet Cruises to St Malo. Prices start from £116 per person.

Your mini-break will start with a relaxing overnight sailing from Portsmouth and a 4-course dinner in one of Brittany Ferries’ acclaimed on-board restaurants, before settling in for the night in a comfortable en-suite cabin. Refreshed on arrival in St Malo the next morning, you’ll have plenty of time to explore all that this Breton city has to offer plus lunch at your chosen restaurant at 12:30. Passengers will then depart St Malo at 20:30 for a second night on board as they sail back to Portsmouth.

In St Malo, there are three restaurants each offering a three course meal to choose from:

  1. Located in a prime position facing the castle, Café de l’Ouest is one of St Malo’s most popular venues specialising in local fish dishes. The three course offering includes a welcome aperitif and coffee and the chef regularly serves local highlights such as Cancale oysters, salmon with shallot butter and home-made crème brulée.
  2. Just across the road from Café de l’Ouest is its sister restaurant Le Lion d’Or which is synonymous with good food and wines and specialises in top quality meats. Your three course lunch includes a welcome aperitif and coffee and features choices such as chicken liver terrine, succulent home-made burger and delicious crêpes.
  3. Tucked away within the walls of St Malo’s old town is the recently renovated restaurant Fidelis.  Expect traditional and delicious cuisine created from local produce. Your lunch will also include a free aperitif and coffee. Regular staples on the menu are salad or pork as starters followed by chicken or hake and then finishing with a fabulous homemade lemon tart.

The walled city had a long history of piracy during the 17th and 18th centuries earning much wealth from local extortion and adventures at sea. Today, St Malo is a winding maze of medieval streets bursting at the seams with history, culture and stunning sea vistas. The historical town has a wide selection of charming boutiques, restaurants and cafés.
