Brittany Ferries has confirmed the introduction of a more tourism-oriented ship Galicia on to its Rosslare/Bilbao route from November of this year. The huge cruise-ferry is one of the newest additions to the Brittany Ferries fleet having been launched in December 2020.

Brittany Ferries is carrying more than 1,000 freight units a month on its seaborne route connecting Rosslare in Ireland with Bilbao in Spain. In total, 7,874 units were carried in the first eight months of this year, which was 70 percent or 3,246 units up on 2020 figures.

“We had hoped for a return to service for all our routes in mid-March, but the reality is that most people are simply unable to travel at this time, " said CEO Christophe Mathieu. "Booking levels are extremely low and we are relying on loans to carry us through this difficult period. It is therefore simply not viable to run loss-making routes at this time.”

16 January 2018: Brittany Ferries has today announced a new route into northern Spain. Starting at the end of April, the service will link Cork and Santander, making two return-sailings a week. The move will be the first time there has ever been a ferry service linking Ireland and Spain.
