Brittany Ferries voted the best – seven times running

29th November 2019

Readers of the Telegraph have named Brittany Ferries their favourite ferry company in the newspaper’s 2019 travel awards. This is the seventh year running that Brittany Ferries has won the award making it the ‘most consistently successful brand in the history of the award scheme’.

Established in 1998, the Telegraph Travel Awards are among the longest running and most prestigious in the industry, giving readers the chance to recognise those in the sector who they feel have made the biggest impact in their travelling lives. This year’s voting survey covered 15 categories, with over 40,000 readers taking part.

Naming Brittany Ferries ‘Best Ferry Line’, the newspaper remarked: “No company featuring in our travel awards over the years has been more consistently successful than Brittany Ferries. It has an extraordinary record, topping our poll of ferry companies year in, year out. Of course, the French-run company has a head start over operators on the much busier Dover-Calais routes – the destinations Brittany Ferries offers, and the length of the crossings work in its favour.

“All its services give you the chance to relax and enjoy the crossing, before decanting you off the ramp and into some of the most beautiful parts of the Brittany and Normandy coasts –via Le Havre, Caen, Cherbourg, St Malo and tiny Roscoff. And let’s not forget the much longer 24-hour services across the Bay of Biscay to Bilbao or Santander which are effectively mini-cruises rather than ferry trips. But for all those advantages, Brittany Ferries still has to deliver and it does so in spades offering excellent food on comfortable, reliable, well-presented ships.”

Christophe Mathieu, Brittany Ferries’ CEO said: “All of our 2,500 colleagues at Brittany Ferries are dedicated to giving customers the very best service and a rich, memorable travel experience as they sail between the UK, France, Spain and Ireland. To win this award seven years on the trot bears testimony to those efforts, and I’d like to say a huge thank you to our customers for their loyalty and for this most-welcome and much-valued recognition.”

The company has also been acclaimed for its holidays: at the 2019 British Travel Awards it was named Best Holiday Company to Western Europe & Ireland. Sail and stay holidays are a key part of the Brittany Ferries portfolio, including a wide range of hotel, apartment, French gite and Spanish casa holidays. It has been offering package deals to France since 1976 and to Spain from 1979 giving it unrivalled expertise on the destinations it serves.
