The only way is Devon (to get to France for Feb half term)

25th January 2024

  • Ferry services to Brittany return to Plymouth in time for February half term
  • Plymouth is set to receive a significant boost from Brittany Ferries, starting February 9th and covering the forthcoming half-term holiday.

Ferry sailings to Brittany from Millbay are back – and much earlier in the season than usual.

Ships will leave Plymouth five nights a week bound for Roscoff. Afternoon voyages will bring visitors back from the scenic Breton town.

The move is a departure from previous years where those seeking a half-term break have been forced to drive east for a departure leaving Portsmouth. But this year the only way to get to Brittany for a half-term break is via the south-west.

Armorique is the cruise-ferry that will serve the route. She’s well known to residents of Millbay and to regular travellers. Launched in 2009, Armorique is a well-appointed vessel that has served the southwest every year since.

Armorique accommodates up to 1,500 passengers with a choice of 247 cabins – all of which are en-suite and air conditioned – plus a number of reserved lounge seats spread out throughout the ship. Cabins adapted for disabled passengers and pet-friendly cabins ensure everyone is welcome and accommodated on board.

In March, Armorique will be joined by Pont-Aven. Brittany Ferries’ flagship will re-connect Plymouth with Spain. Departures will take place twice a week and passengers will once more look forward to one of the most spectacular arrivals in Europe. Snow-covered Picos de Europa mountains provide the frame for sweeping golden beaches and coves of Santander where swimmers wave to passengers as the ferry glides into port.

Plymouth holds a special place in Brittany Ferries’ heart, being the first destination the company sailed to when it launched in 1973. This makes Plymouth-Roscoff Brittany Ferries’ heritage route and it remains pivotal to company strategy today.

Holiday makers can save 30% on their ferry fare if they combine travel with Brittany Ferries award winning holiday accommodation throughout 2024. The company offers a fully-bespoke sail-and-stay booking experience via its Plymouth-based call centre on: 0330 159 7000
